The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 FM, 1510 AM, 1600 AM, 104.1 FM and Sundays on YesFM, talked about Mountain Valley Pipeline, oil and gas drilling, Freeport LNG and much more last week.

The Shale Gas News has grown again to the Williamsport area on stations WEJS 1600 AM & 104.1 FM. The Shale Gas News is now broadcasting in Bradford, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Lycoming, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga and Wayne Counties, as well as in greater central PA and now the Williamsport area. The Shale Gas News is aired on Saturday or Sunday depending on the station.

Every Saturday Rusty Fender, Matt Henderson and I host a morning radio show to discuss all things shale gas. This week we played more of the podcast from the Power Hour with Alex Epstein with Toby Rice, the CEO of America’s largest natural gas producer, on America’s strangled natural gas potential.

Shale Gas News

The Shale Gas News, typically, is broadcast live. On the December 31st show (click above), we covered the following new natural gas territory (see news excerpts below):

  • Environmentalists sue to stop U.S. oil and gas auction off Alaska coast. Environmental groups sued the Biden administration on Wednesday to block a sale of oil and gas drilling rights off the coast of Alaska that is scheduled for next week.  The legal action, filed in federal court in Alaska, comes as the Interior Department is preparing to offer nearly 1 million acres in the Cook Inlet on Dec. 30. The sale was among the concessions to the oil and gas sector included in President Joe Biden’s climate change law, the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).
  • U.S. pipeline regulator launched review of special permit process following audit of Keystone spills. The special permit process that enables TC Energy Corp.’s Keystone pipeline to operate in the U.S. at a higher stress level than is allowed under federal pipeline regulations is being scrutinized as part of an independent review launched in response to concerns raised about Keystone’s recent track record of spills.
  • Mountain Valley Pipeline in West Virginia hits another roadblock. A controversial natural gas pipeline in West Virginia appears dead for now after it failed to make next year’s spending bill from Congress. There certainly could be renewed efforts with a new Congress coming next year, but the Mountain Valley Pipeline has hit a dead end for now.  According to US Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), this could cost West Virginia hundreds of millions of dollars over the years.
  • Democrat Last-Minute Attempt to Revive Manchin “Save MVP” Bill. And just like that, the horse everyone thought was dead has come back to life and is leading the race. We’re talking about U.S. Senator Joe Manchin’s so-called permitting reform bill to help save the Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP). The bill proposed by Manchin would bypass the clown judges on the 4th Circuit Court of Appeals who are blocking it. Manchin got a pledge from his buddy Chuck Schumer to allow a vote on permitting reform in return for Manchin selling out the country by voting to pass the misnamed Inflation Reduction Act.
  • Freeport LNG Changes Restart Date from Mid- to End-December. Three weeks ago, Freeport LNG, which has been out of commission since early June, changed the target date it would restart from November to mid-December. That wasn’t the first time the company moved the restart date, and (it seems), not the last. On Friday, Freeport announced another delay. The company now says feed gas will not flow to the facility until the end of December.
  • Outgoing Sen. Toomey Introduces “Save MVP” Pipe Permitting Bill. his one came right out of left field, and we didn’t see it coming. Totally unexpected. Yesterday, outgoing U.S. Senator Pat Toomey, from Pennsylvania, introduced a bill to reform pipeline permitting. The bill specifically approves and would push through final construction for Mountain Valley Pipeline (MVP), a pipeline that doesn’t even touch PA (it starts in Wetzel County, WV, and ends in Pittsylvania County, VA). The bill was concurrently introduced in the House by Congressman Mike Kelly, also from PA. Weird. Does this bill stand even a remote chance of passing before Congress adjourns and the next Congress takes over in early January?
