The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 FM, 1510 AM, 1600 AM, 104.1 FM and Sundays on YesFM, talked about energy crisis, natural gas prices, EV tax credit and much more last week.
The Shale Gas News has grown again to the Williamsport area on stations WEJS 1600 AM & 104.1 FM. The Shale Gas News is now broadcasting in Bradford, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Lycoming, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga and Wayne Counties, as well as in greater central PA and now the Williamsport area. The Shale Gas News is aired on Saturday or Sunday depending on the station.
Every Saturday Rusty Fender, Matt Henderson and I host a morning radio show to discuss all things shale gas. This week we played more of the program from the API State of American Energy 2023 presentation.

- Energy Experts Say U.S. Behind Europe, But Energy Crisis Could Happen Here. A continuing increase in wind and solar on the U.S. electrical grid has strained energy resources during extreme weather events, according to grid reliability assessments. But fossil fuel-powered resources have prevented the kinds of problems sweeping across Europe this winter. As Germany has done in the past few months, the United Kingdom is bringing coal plants back online and offering money to citizens to cut down on their energy use because wind energy resources just aren’t providing enough power.
- Republicans launch newest fight against Biden’s oil drawdowns. Republicans are aiming to neutralize one of the main tools that President Joe Biden used to lower gasoline prices before last year’s elections — his prolific releases of oil from the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The big question: Will drivers care, now that fuel costs are no longer gouging their wallets?
- US Natural Gas Falls Below $3 for First Time Since May 2021. US natural gas futures extended losses below $3 amid mild winter weather that helped spark the worst selloff among the country’s commodities. Gas for February delivery lost as much as 8.7% to $2.80 per million British thermal units Thursday on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Prices have been at the lowest levels since April 2021 after dipping below $3 on Wednesday.
- Biden Administration Oil, Gas Drilling Approvals Outpace Trump’s. Federal data show the Biden administration approved 6,430 permits for oil and gas drilling on public lands in its first two years, outpacing the Trump administration’s 6,172 drilling-permit approvals in its first two years. The Biden administration’s policy of fossil fuel expansion contradicts the clear climate science that fossil fuel growth must be stopped and governments must phase out fossil fuels to avoid the most catastrophic consequences of climate change.
- Enverus: Oil And Gas Industry Mergers Dropped 13% During 2022. In its annual report detailing activity around mergers and acquisitions (M&A) for the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry, energy intelligence and analytics firm Enverus finds that deal activity slowed significantly during 2022. The report’s authors said in a release that M&A transactions fell by 13% on a year-over-year basis.
- Manchin bill slaps back at Biden in EV tax credit fight. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Chair Joe Manchin took another swipe at the Biden administration Wednesday, releasing legislation that would stop the Treasury Department from issuing subsidies for consumer electric vehicles that don’t comply with strict sourcing requirements for batteries and battery minerals. The West Virginia Democrat brought out the “American Vehicle Security Act of 2023,” a bill that would bar automakers from making an end run around sourcing requirements under the newly minted Inflation Reduction Act, or IRA.
