The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 FM, 1510 AM, 1600 AM, 104.1 FM and Sundays on YesFM, talked about ESG debate, gas stoves, Russian oil price cap and much more last week.
The Shale Gas News has grown again to the Williamsport area on stations WEJS 1600 AM & 104.1 FM. The Shale Gas News is now broadcasting in Bradford, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Lycoming, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga and Wayne Counties, as well as in greater central PA and now the Williamsport area. The Shale Gas News is aired on Saturday or Sunday depending on the station.
Every Saturday Rusty Fender, Matt Henderson and I host a morning radio show to discuss all things shale gas. This week we played more of the program from the API State of American Energy 2023 presentation.

- Colorado’s natural gas industry pushes back on gas stove study that sparked national debate. Colorado’s oil and gas industry is pushing back against a recent study linking natural gas stoves to childhood asthma, which sparked a national debate in recent weeks about the safety of the appliances. The study is flawed, industry officials say, and so too are efforts to regulate the use of natural gas appliances like stoves and air and water heaters.
- Joe Manchin Says U.S. Should Keep Increasing Oil, Gas Production to Help Allies. Sen. Joe Manchin, a Democrat representing West Virginia, said the U.S. must continue its production of oil and natural gas as it pursues cleaner energy solutions to be in a better place to help its allies. Mr. Manchin spoke Thursday on a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to address the global energy crisis, including climate change and geopolitical conflict.
- US Seen Pushing for Russian Oil Price Cap to Stay at $60. The Biden administration is inclined to oppose any move to lower the price cap on exports of Russian crude oil, despite a push by some European countries to squeeze Moscow’s revenues even more, according to people familiar with the matter. Russia’s flagship oil Urals is trading far below international prices — and the Group of Seven’s $60 per barrel cap that came into effect on Dec. 5.
- What If Both Sides Of The ESG Debate Are Right About US Majors’ Oil And Gas Investments, But For The Wrong Reasons? Now that the House of Representatives had turned over to the Republicans, the rhetoric around claims of “woke” capitalism have grown louder. One of the major beefs of the anti-ESG wing of the Republican party is that ESG is responsible for the cut in US investment in oil and gas production. At the same time, the International Energy Agency (IEA), by no means a liberal mouthpiece, calculated that “in 2020, clean energy investments by the oil and gas industry accounted for only around 1% of total capital expenditure.” That proportion was expected to go up to around 4% in 2021.
- DOE Launches New $50 Million Program to Help Communities Meet Their Clean Energy Goals. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today launched a new up to $50 million program to help communities across the country transition to clean energy systems that are reliable, affordable, equitable, and reflective of local priorities. The Clean Energy to Communities program (C2C) will connect local governments, electric utilities, community-based groups, and others with the innovative modeling and testing tools developed at DOE’s world-class national laboratories to transform their clean energy goals and ambitions into reality.
- Diversified Energy Adds Marcellus Expert to Board of Directors. Diversified Energy (formerly Diversified Gas & Oil), with major assets in the Marcellus/Utica region (and other regions too), owns approximately 8 million acres of leases with close to 70,000 (mostly) conventional oil and gas wells. The company has been adding shale wells to the mix too. By our estimate, the company owns at least 400 shale wells. Last week, Diversified announced it is adding Kathryn (Katie) Klaber as a non-executive director to its board of directors. SMART move!
