The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 FM, 1510 AM, 1600 AM, 104.1 FM and Sundays on YesFM, talked about Salt Fork State Park, utility companies, drilling setbacks and much more last week.

The Shale Gas News has grown again to the Williamsport area on stations WEJS 1600 AM & 104.1 FM. The Shale Gas News is now broadcasting in Bradford, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Lycoming, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga and Wayne Counties, as well as in greater central PA and now the Williamsport area. The Shale Gas News is aired on Saturday or Sunday depending on the station.

Every Saturday Rusty Fender, Matt Henderson and I host a morning radio show to discuss all things shale gas.

Shale Gas News

The Shale Gas News, typically, is broadcast live. On the April 22nd show (click above), we covered the following new natural gas territory (see news excerpts below):

  • Debunking the Fiction of So-Called “Renewable” Natural Gas. We don’t write much about RNG because, quite frankly, it doesn’t interest us. We’d rather punch holes in the ground to get natural gas than cap a manure pile to collect it. There’s a lot of hullabaloo about RNG these days, some of it coming from shale circles (which we find odd). Here’s the thing: If you believe producing and using RNG is going to address the concerns of anti-fossil fuel nutters, you are deeply mistaken. The wacko left that hates fossil fuels, including natural gas, hate
  • Encino Offered OH $1.8B Deal to Drill Under Salt Fork State Park. Yeah, you read the headline correctly. Encino Energy offered the State of Ohio $1.8 BILLION (estimated) to drill for natural gas and oil under Salt Fork State Park, located in Guernsey County, OH. The park includes 17,229 acres of land and 2,952 acres of water. In December, Encino made an offer to the state immediately after House Bill (HB) 507 passed. The offer includes a payment of $5,500 per acre as a signing bonus and 20% royalties. No drilling would be done inside the park. All drilling would be done on land surrounding (on the outside of) the park.
  • Fed Court Rules EQT, Diversified Must Face WV Class Action. Last summer, MDN brought you the news about a lawsuit against Diversified Energy and EQT over the issue of old and “abandoned” wells in West Virginia. In June 2018, MDN exclusively brought our readers the news that Diversified Gas & Oil (now called Diversified Energy) had purchased EQT Corporation’s Huron Shale assets, with a bunch of conventional wells, in Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia for $575 million. Several WV landowners, prompted (and supported) by Big Green groups, sued the EQT and Diversified last July, alleging the wells no longer produce and (under law) must be plugged. The new news is that a federal judge in WV ruled yesterday that a proposed class action by the landowners against the companies can proceed.
  • PA House Bill 170 Kills New Marcellus Drilling Using Setbacks. Danielle Friel Otten, a radical Democrat representing part of Chester County in the Pennsylvania House (since 2019), is a committed anti-fracker. She ran her campaign on a pledge to ban all fracking in the state . Otten recently introduced House Bill (HB) 170 to “expand safety zones around oil and gas wells and related natural gas infrastructure.” What a joke! In plain language, the bill increases setback distances from 500 feet of a shale well to 2,500 feet–effectively killing any new shale well drilling anywhere in the state.
  • Dominion Energy, National Grid Said to be Shopping Northeast Pipes. The left’s insane push to ban the use of all fossil energy, including natural gas, is beginning to bear fruit with large utility companies. Dominion and National Grid–huge electric and gas companies providing service to millions of customers–are rumored to be shopping some of their natural gas pipeline networks. So says the venerable Wall Street Journal. The reason? They believe the end of providing natural gas to customers is now on the horizon, and they want to dump their gas pipeline assets now, while those assets will still fetch big money.
