The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 FM, 1510 AM, 1600 AM, 104.1 FM and Sundays on YesFM, talked about energy security, mining regulations, electric transition and much more last week.
The Shale Gas News has grown again to the Williamsport area on stations WEJS 1600 AM & 104.1 FM. The Shale Gas News is now broadcasting in Bradford, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Lycoming, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga and Wayne Counties, as well as in greater central PA and now the Williamsport area. The Shale Gas News is aired on Saturday or Sunday depending on the station.
Every Saturday Rusty Fender, Matt Henderson and I host a morning radio show to discuss all things shale gas. This week, as a guest, we had George Stark, Director of External Affairs at Coterra Energy.

- House Republicans releases flurry of bills to loosen oil and gas, mining regulation. House Republicans pushed a series of bills Tuesday to reduce regulation of the oil and gas and mining industries in a bid to expand domestic energy production. In a hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C., chair of the Energy, Climate and Grid Security subcommittee, said the Inflation Reduction Act and other laws passed by the Biden administration were threatening U.S. energy security.
- Biden’s 2023 State of the Union: President appeals to Republicans to work together on debt ceiling. U.S. President Joe Biden called for unity in a sharply divided Congress as he made a spirited appeal to Republicans to raise the $34.1 trillion debt ceiling in the annual State of the Union speech Tuesday night. Biden touted U.S. job growth, his infrastructure program, drug price cuts for seniors and the rise in domestic manufacturing as he sparred with Republicans over higher taxes on billionaires and immigration reform.
- ‘We Are Going to Need Oil…At Least Another Decade,’ Biden Says – President Biden, who has championed a zero-carbon emissions future, on Tuesday acknowledged that the United States would need oil and natural gas for at least another decade. However, his silence on exploration and production permitting reform was deafening for some politicos and industry groups.
- Joe Biden only hates oil and gas because he doesn’t understand them. In a particularly weird passage of his uninspiring State of the Union address, President Joe Biden went off script and, in contravention of his administration’s policy, called for more oil and gas to be extracted from the Earth. “Have you noticed Big Oil just reported its profits? Record profits,” Biden said disparagingly. “Last year, they made $200 billion in the midst of a global energy crisis. … Why? They invested too little of that profit to increase domestic production.”
- As natural gas prices tumble, new worries for U.S. shale patch. A 46% drop in natural gas prices this year is rippling across the U.S. shale patch, threatening to slow drilling and chill deal-making in a move unthinkable six months ago as global demand soared. Analysts are chopping their outlook for gas prices this year, and for production and earnings. The drop has also put a cloud over merger and acquisition activity, analysts said.
- The Clear And Present Danger In The Electric Transition. The electricity system in the United States — all of it — is heading into a massive crisis in the not very distant future. It is a crisis that is known and continues to grow. We are simply asking too much of the system — generation, transmission and distribution — to accommodate rapid electrification while it transitions from traditional generation to renewables, mostly solar and wind, if we don’t focus on resource adequacy and transmission.
