The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 FM, 1510 AM, 1600 AM, 104.1 FM and Sundays on YesFM, talked about CNX, TLC Specialties, Transco Pipeline and much more last week.
The Shale Gas News has grown again to the Williamsport area on stations WEJS 1600 AM & 104.1 FM. The Shale Gas News is now broadcasting in Bradford, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Lycoming, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga and Wayne Counties, as well as in greater central PA and now the Williamsport area. The Shale Gas News is aired on Saturday or Sunday depending on the station.
Every Saturday Rusty Fender, Matt Henderson and I host a morning radio show to discuss all things shale gas. This week we played more of the program from the API State of American Energy 2023 presentation.
The Shale Gas News, typically, is broadcast live. On the February 4th show (click above), we covered the following new natural gas territory (see news excerpts below):
- CNX Hires Slippery Rock Petroleum/NatGas Grad as Engineer. For years we’ve highlighted the top-notch educational program available at Lackawanna College’s School of Petroleum and Natural Gas (PNG), now located in Tunkhannock (Wyoming County), PA. The PNG program is unique, one of just a handful nationwide that runs a two-year program to train students to be technicians, able to operate sophisticated machinery and run compressor stations, for example. But what if a student wants to become an engineer in the oil and gas space? What kind of programs exist for that in the Marcellus/Utica?
- EQT CEO Says “Gas Markets in the U.S. are Broken” – The CEO of the largest natural gas driller/producer in the U.S., EQT’s Toby Rice, is currently attending the Atlantic Conference in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. He spoke with Bloomberg reporters about what he sees ahead for U.S. natural gas production coming this year and, more broadly, about the problems he sees in general. Rice said, “The gas markets in the US are broken.” Why? Lack of pipeline infrastructure and the inability to build new ones.
- PA Fish & Boat Commission Fines PGE for Muddy Water in Loyalsock. Pennsylvania General Energy (PGE) is constructing a natural gas pipeline, a freshwater pipeline, and facilities to withdraw fresh water at a site along the Loyalsock Creek, north of Montoursville in Lycoming County, PA. The company’s work resulted in a sediment plume that appeared in Loyalsock Creek for several miles downstream of the construction site, caused by the failure of erosion and sediment controls following a heavy rainstorm. The state Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) issued notices of violation (NOVs) on three separate occasions from September to November. Yet it was the PA Fish & Boat Commission that just announced a settlement with PGE for creek pollution.
- $150M Manufacturing Plant Coming to WV, Cites M-U NGLs as Reason. Some exciting news out of West Virginia to share. During last evening’s State of the State address, WV Gov. Jim Justice announced TCL Specialties, a subsidiary of TCL (Thirumalai Chemicals Limited), which is based in India, will break ground this month for two manufacturing facilities in Marshall County, West Virginia. The company will invest $150 million to build the first (of three) phases, manufacturing chemicals and food ingredients. And guess what most of the feedstock (raw inputs) will be for these new plants? NGLs (natural gas liquids) from the Marcellus/Utica.
- FERC Approves Transco $950M Northeast Expansion Pipe Project. In March 2019, MDN told you about a new Williams plan to beef up the Transco pipeline in Pennsylvania and New Jersey to deliver an extra 829 MMcf/d of Marcellus gas to PA, NJ, and Maryland. The project, called the Regional Energy Access Expansion (REAE) project, was aimed at competing with the PennEast Pipeline project by flowing gas from northeastern Pennsylvania to the Trenton, NJ, area. PennEast got canceled after stiff opposition from liberal state officials in New Jersey. REAE is also facing opposition in NJ. However, after a looooong and winding road, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on Wednesday approved the project. This is a MAJOR victory!
