The Shale Gas News, heard every Saturday at 10 AM on 94.3 FM, 1510 AM, 1600 AM, 104.1 FM and Sundays on YesFM, talked about pipelines, oil exports, Utica gas-fired power plant and much more last week.
The Shale Gas News has grown again to the Williamsport area on stations WEJS 1600 AM & 104.1 FM. The Shale Gas News is now broadcasting in Bradford, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Luzerne, Lycoming, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga and Wayne Counties, as well as in greater central PA and now the Williamsport area. The Shale Gas News is aired on Saturday or Sunday depending on the station.
Every Saturday Rusty Fender, Matt Henderson and I host a morning radio show to discuss all things shale gas. This week, as guests, we had PA State Rep. Jonathan Fritz and Lisa Schwarz, Education Director of the Oerb.

- U.S. pipeline companies eye nat gas infrastructure for growth. U.S. midstream companies have set their sights on natural gas pipelines and export terminals as a key growth opportunity as investor pressures and political headwinds make new crude oil pipeline projects unpalatable. U.S. pipeline operators are expected to have benefited from high oil and gas prices and rising domestic production in the second quarter, though some analysts warn that the decline in consumer demand late in the quarter could affect results.
- America’s Most Important Shale Patch Isn’t Going Anywhere. The Permian Basin has dominated oil and gas deals in the U.S. in 2022, attracting almost half of all oil investments in the second quarter. Its abundant shale resources continue to attract investment from some of America’s most important oil firms, with no sign of slowing production. However, restrictions on new oil leases and threats of tighter environmental regulations from the U.S. government could see a curb in output unless Texas and New Mexico shift to a more environmentally friendly approach to oil and gas operations.
- Heat Wave Sends Natural-Gas Prices Soaring. Some of the hottest weather on record is lifting natural-gas prices, reversing last month’s plunge and reviving a key driver of inflation. Natural-gas futures have jumped 48% this month—including 10% on Wednesday—to $8.007 per million British thermal units. That is still more than $1 off the 14-year high hit just before a Texas natural-gas export facility caught fire in early June and sent prices tumbling along with the outlook for exports.
- Biden Under Pressure To Restrict Oil Exports For All The Wrong Reasons. He already restricted imports of crude oil on his first day in office when he cancelled the Keystone XL Pipeline project with a stroke of the presidential pen. Many are now pressuring President Joe Biden to use a declaration of a “climate emergency” to similarly restrict U.S. crude oil exports with another executive order.
- Utica Gas Power Plant on Ohio River Uses Hydrogen in World First. A world-first happened along the banks of the Ohio River in Hannibal (Monroe County), OH in March. The Long Ridge Energy Terminal, host to a Utica shale gas-fired power plant that went online last November, successfully added a 5% mixture of hydrogen to the natural gas it burns in March. The plant is now using and continuing to experiment with up to 20% hydrogen as part of the mix it burns through next year. Eventually, the plant’s owners plan to burn 100% hydrogen, crowding out Utica Shale gas (a shame).
- Scott Perry Suddenly Gone as PA DEP Deputy Sec for Oil & Gas Mgmt, Scott Perry, Pennsylvania Dept. of Environmental Protection (DEP) Deputy Secretary for Oil and Gas Management since 2011, is no longer an employee of the agency. The DEP confirmed to the Environment Digest Blog that as of February 11 Perry is gone. He was scheduled to present the Oil and Gas Program fee report to the Environmental Quality Board on February 15–hence our title saying his departure was sudden. No official reason has been given for his departure.
