Work is beginning to plug 12 more abandoned oil and gas wells in the Cornplanter State Forest in Forest County, Pennsylvania, according to the state departments of Conservation and Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.
Plugging the Harmony Township wells, some of which are believed to date back to the 1920s, marks the first phase of a four-phase project in the area.
The DCNR awarded the contract for the project to Howard Drilling, LLC, of Mount Jewett, according to Farm and Dairy. The DCNR is responsible for overall project management and contract oversight, while the DEP provided the technical specifications for the contract documents and will provide on-site inspection services.
