The founders of Silgan Holdings Inc. are stepping down as co-chairmen of the container company, clearing the way for the current CEO to take on additional responsibilities.
R. Philip Silver and D. Greg Horrigan have served as chairmen of the company, both as executives and non-executives, since founding the company in 1987.
CEO Tony Allott takes over as chairman, and both Silver and Horrigan will continue as directors. Allot has been with Silgan since 2002 and has been CEO since 2006.
Current Chief Operating Officer Adam Greenlee also has been given the additional title of president of Silgan, the Stamford, Conn.-based company said. Greenlee joined Silgan in 2005 and became COO in 2009.
Silgan makes rigid containers and closures, both in plastic and metal. The company also produces dispensing systems for food, beverage, health care, garden, personal care, home and beauty products. Sales last year totaled $4.4 billion.
It was tied for No. 10 in the more recent Plastics News’ ranking of injection molders in North America with an estimated $580 million in sales.
The company has more than 100 manufacturing locations in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.
