I thought it might be fun and illuminating to look back 100 years ago at what was happening with natural gas. It is eye opening, given all we’ve learned over the last century. Ford Goes Natural Gas!
Today, Ford offers CNG vehicles, of course, but a century ago, Henry Ford had to be convinced to use natural gas instead of coal in his industrial plants:

Standard Oil Takes A Bath!
J.D. Rockefeller was certainly a profiteer, too, but he didn’t always make money…

Don’t feel sorry for the Rockefeller family losses. They made plenty and their trust-funder descendants are now the enemy; fierce opponents of natural gas, collaborators with China and among the special interests behind global green energy grifting.
Meanwhile, the Hustle Continues Unabated
Anyone familiar with Daniel Yergin’s writing knows hustle, in the best sense of the word, was integral to the development of oil and natural gas and big leap civilization as a whole took as a result. Here is an example of how it all happened:

Unfortunately, Capitol Petroleum Company didn’t make it but we’re told “non-cancelled Capitol Petroleum Company stock certificates are offered to collectors online for between $30 and $60 dollars.”
How about that?
Insurance Folks Are Smart, But There Are Exceptions!
Capitol Petroleum Company, at least, showed some hustle and no one can say the company wasn’t run by some very smart people. And, they were smart not to do this:
