China’s oil and gas company CNOOC announced on Monday a “significant” oil and gas condensate discovery off the South China Sea, Kallanish Energy reports.
The discovery of Huizhou 26-6 in the eastern South China Sea is set to become the first mid-to-large sized field in the shallow waters of Pearl River Mouth Basin.
The well-encountered oil and gas pay zones of roughly 422.2 meters (1,385 feet) thickness. It yielded testing production of 2,020 barrels per day of oil and some 15.36 million cubic feet per day of gas.
CNOOC said this is the first time it has achieved commercial and highly productive oil and gas flow in buried hill exploration in the eastern South China Sea. It marks a “significant exploration breakthrough” and further proves “the huge exploration potential in this new field,” the firm added.
