The volume of working natural gas injected into underground storage during the week ended May 31, was the second-highest amount in 2019, and the fifth time this year the volume was measured in triple digits, Kallanish Energy reports.
The Energy Information Administration reported 119 billion cubic feet of working gas was added to storage during the week ended May 31, bringing the total volume of stored working gas to 1.99 trillion cubic feet (Tcf). All numbers are rounded.
The latest total was up 182 Bcf, or 10.1%, from the year-ago total of 1.80 Tcf, but was down 240 Bcf, or 10.8%, from the five-year average of 2.23 Tcf, EIA reported.

The highest volume of working gas added to storage this year was during the week ended April 26, when 123 Bcf was added to storage.
All five regions EIA divides the Lower 48 U.S. states into when tracking stored working gas reported a week-to-week increase in gas stored.
The biggest week-to-week increase was recorded in the Midwest region, up 37 Bcf, or 9.3%, raising the total working gas stored to 436 Bcf, from 399 Bcf in storage during the week ended May 24.
The latest Midwest region total was up 99 Bcf, or 29.4%, from the year-ago total of 337 Bcf, but was down 37 Bcf, or 7.8%, from the five-year average of 473 Bcf.
The East region recorded a 31 Bcf, 8.1%, increase in working gas in storage, to 414 Bcf, from 383 Bcf one week earlier.
The latest East region total was up 66 Bcf, or 19.0%, from the year-ago total of 348 Bcf, but was down 13 Bcf, or 3.0%, from the five-year average of 427 Bcf, EIA reported.
