Ube Corp. Europe, the Castellón, Spain-based subsidiary of Japanese chemicals company Ube Industries Ltd. announced April 9 it has acquired a majority stake in Spanish compound manufacturer Repsol SL. According to Ube, the shares were transferred in accordance with the terms of the share transfer agreement at the end of March.

Ube has provided no further details on the number of shares acquired or the agreed sale price.

Based in Almazora, Repsol SL — a subsidiary of Spanish energy firm Repsol — manufactures thermoplastic compounds based on nylon 6, nylon 6/6, polypropylene and polyacetal.

Suitable for both extrusion and injection molding, the materials are mainly destined for the automotive, industrial and electrical components sectors.

The move, Ube said in a news release, is in line with the company’s latest strategy, which identifies nylon 6 as an “active growth business.”

The company is currently strengthening its presence in the nylon 6 market for extrusion and expanding into the market for injection applications.
