The U.S. rig count jumped nine units higher to 360 for the period ending Jan. 8, led by additions in the Permian Basin and Marcellus Shale, according to Baker Hughes.
The increase in domestic drilling included the addition of eight oil rigs and one natural gas rig. The Permian Basin added four rigs, bringing its total to 179. The Marcellus Shale also added four rigs, bringing its total to 30.
During the same period, the Utica Shale dropped two rigs.
