Packaging producer Minnesota Diversified Industries invested $3.2 million into a new extruder and related upgrades that is expected to create 32 new jobs over the next 10 years for the nonprofit social enterprise company.

Elsewhere in packaging, Pregis is closing a Kentucky plastic sheet foam plant. The closure of which is due to “the discontinuation of a key ingredient,” which the company did not divulge. 

ABC Polymer Industries is facing federal charges related to the death of a worker in 2017. Steve Toloken also reported on a recent OSHA fine at a packaging firm. 

Extended producer responsibility laws passed in four U.S. states in the last year and some state lawmakers are pushing for a national approach.
