Polykar adds film line in $2.2M project

Flexible packaging maker Polykar Inc. is adding a new blown film line that will expand production by 7 million pounds.

The Windmöeller & Höelscher Optimex line is the third such machine at the company’s facility in Saint-Laurent, Quebec. The C$3 million (US$2.2 million) project brings annual production of multilayered film to 22 million pounds.

The third Optimex line allows for “the much-needed increase in production, but also for the addition of half a dozen new technical positions in our co-extrusion department which will help us ramp up our share of the convertor film market,” Polykar President Amir Karim said in a statement.

Polykar installed its first Optimex machine in 2014, and that was the 100th line sold around the world by W&H, the equipment maker said.

Polykar makes polyethylene film, compostable bags, garbage bags, and food and industrial packaging.
