Plastimagen, Mexico’s largest plastics show, is postponing from November to mid-January because of the coronavirus pandemic, organizers announced July 2.
“In ongoing dialogues with many key national and international industry participants, our decision is based on the commitment to collaborate with the sector to ensure we host a safe event,” Jose Navarro, general director of organizer Tarsus Mexico, said. “The health and safety of our community is our top priority.”
The event will now be held Jan. 11-14, 2021, at same venue, the Citibanamex Center in Mexico City.
In a joint statement with Tarsus, the head of Mexico’s plastics association, the National Association of Plastic Industries, or Anipac, thanked the show administrators for delaying the event.
“Anipac thanks Tarsus for having taken into account the voice of many of its associates when postponing the date of Plastimagen 2020,” President Aldimir Torres said, adding that the decision “clarifies and endorses the values of its executives.”
Tarsus said organizers hope the event can “jump-start” an economic recovery for Mexico’s industry, suggesting that they felt the country would be recovering from the pandemic by early 2021.
“As [a] trade platform, the show will play a vital role in reigniting and driving the economic recovery of the region’s plastics industry as we move through the post-coronavirus/COVID-19 recovery phase,” said Paul St. Amour, vice president of Latin America for Tarsus Mexico.
The statement said the show has 870 exhibiting companies and 45,000 square meters, or about 480,000 square feet, of exhibition space.
