Plans are moving forward for a New Jersey project that would transport natural gas by rail on one of the longest routes in the country, stretching 200 miles through densely populated areas along the East Coast, according to OPB.
Gas from Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale will first be sent by pipeline to a new liquefaction plant in the northeast part of the state where it will be refrigerated to -260F. Then it will be transported by truck or rail to a planned export terminal along the Delaware River in Gloucester County, New Jersey.
The Trump administration’s new rule allowing transportation of natural gas by rail took effect in August.
