The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is seeking public comment via three virtual public hearings on draft regulations that would reduce air pollution from existing natural gas wells and infrastructure, according to Kallanish Energy.
The proposed regulations would restrict volatile organic compounds and would also reduce methane emissions. Additionally, they would require additional controls at unconventional natural gas wells and related infrastructure like compressor stations in the state’s Marcellus Shale and other plays.
If enacted the draft regulations would reduce air pollution by about 4,400 tons per year of VOCs and 75,600 tons per year of methane, DEP said.
