Natural gas production in the Appalachian and Haynesville shale basins has weathered downturns caused by the coronavirus pandemic better than many other oil-focused shale plays, according to The Oklahoman.
Although drilling activity is down in both basins, it hasn’t seen the dramatic declines many other plays have seen. Additionally, the Enverus FundamentalEdge series report notes that production from those basins recovered to about where it was before energy markets collapsed.
According to pipeline flow data, natural gas production from the Appalachian and Haynesville initially dropped by about half earlier this year; however, it has since rebounded. It is estimated total natural gas production from both basins will continue to climb between now and the end of next year.
