Natural gas news from a hundred years ago offers great perspective for discussing one of the cleanest sources of energy available then and still today.

I thought it might be fun and illuminating to look back 100 years ago at what was happening with natural gas. It is eye opening, given all we’ve learned over the last century and, of course, there is little new under the sun. Consider these 100-year old news items (emphasis added):

  • Gas Absorption Used to Yield Gasoline!
  • No, No, No, Not the Feds!
  • “Nature’s Cook Stove and Candle”

Gas Absorption Used to Yield Gasoline!

It’s quite interesting to see how gasoline was produced back in the day when the automobile was just beginning to change to replace the horse on a large scale and changing the world. Gas absorption is still used a process to separate petroleum elements from natural gas in regions where gas comes with natural gas liquids all mixed together. The dirty rotten Russkies explain here.

One of our loyal readers emailed last week to note so many oil and natural gas companies from a century ago no longer exist, but we see in this case we see Phillips and Sinclair both mentioned. The turbulence within the comparatively industry has been more than evident in most of our “!00 Years Ago” stories as the following further illustrates:

No, No, No, Not the Feds!

If the last century has told us anything, it is that no authority should be given the Feds than absolutely necessary (e.g., defending the nation) but, in 1922, the country was still enthralled with destructive progressivism and hadn’t learned the lessons of the 1930s and 1960s, so it was only natural to suppose the Feds should do it.

It’s important, though, to recognize this was a case about the ability to set interstate rates and one responsibility our Constitution does, in fact, give the Feds, is the right to regulate interstate commerce. We can’t have Kansas setting rates for Missouri or New York dictating what will happen in Pennsylvania ,,, wait a minute … isn’t that what that precisely what’s happening with filthy corrupt DRBC? Well, another day, another post.

“Nature’s Cook Stove and Candle”

What’s not to like about this?

17 Jun 1922, Sat The Daily Reporter (Greenfield, Indiana) Newspapers.comnatural gas

Yes, 1922 was when we still celebrated natural resources and industry for what they did for the common man. Now, the former is viewed by our gentry class elites as something but to be preserved for their enjoyment and industry but to be destroyed for the same reason. But, hard times are coming and views will change.
