Natural gas news from a hundred years ago offers great perspective for discussing one of the cleanest sources of energy available then and still today.

I thought it might be fun and illuminating to look back 100 years ago at what was happening with natural gas. It is eye opening, given all we’ve learned over the last century and, of course, there is little new under the sun. Consider these 100-year old news items (emphasis added):

  • Promoting and Protecting the Industry!
  • Hitting It Bigly in Arkansas!
  • Natural Gas Yields Little Carbon Monoxide!

Promoting and Protecting the Industry!

The still relatively young Pennsylvania oil and natural gas industry was busy a century ago promoting itself, organizing to jointly address its shared interests and seeking protective tariffs. The last part may have been questionable based on what we now know about the importance of free trade but, then again, was that Central and South America product fairly priced? We don’t know. What we do know is that Oil City, Pennsylvania was still living its glory days as an oil and natural gas center.

Whatever happened to the Pennsylvania Oil and Gas Men’s Association? Did it evolve into one of the industry associations around today? Perhaps a reader can tell us.

Hitting It Bigly in Arkansas!

These sorts of reports were routine in major oil and natural gas fields, but notice this one is apparently in Arkansas.

Imagine what’s possible today with modern technology and you understand why oil and gas reserves keep growing.

Natural Gas Burned Properly Yields Little Carbon Monoxide

Natural gas was already recognized as a cleaner fuel in 1922, as the following article demonstrates:

Interesting that it was well known in 1922 what junk scientists are still studying today, isn’t it? There is no way to get around the fact natural gas is a clean burning fuel.
