Mexico City — Envases Europe A/S, a member of the Envases Universales Group, a Mexico-based global packaging supplier, has agreed to acquire Germany’s Huber Packaging Group GmbH for an undisclosed sum.
A deal is expected to be signed in the first quarter of 2021, Envases Europe, of Loesning, Jutland, said in a news release posted on its website.
Founded in Öhringen in 1871, Huber makes metal and plastic packaging and has 900 employees at six production sites in Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Austria and Hungary. Its headquarters remains in Öhringen. Plastics packaging is concentrated at a plant in Aesch, Switzerland.
The acquisition “is a cornerstone of Envases Europe’s growth strategy,” Envases said. The transaction would build upon the company’s existing position in the European food segments and “substantially increase the [company’s] geographical footprint in Europe within the general line segments.”
Envases employs 1,100 in Europe with production facilities in Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands. It exports to 30-plus countries.
Commenting on the transaction, Huber CEO Martin Lüer said: “Under the umbrella of Envases Group we see opportunities for a successful development of Huber Packaging. It will give us [an] important drive for a successful future and [enable us] to serve our customers even better.”
Envases Universales de México S.A.P.I. operates 66 manufacturing facilities on three continents, including three dozen within its PET division. The division manufactures bottles, preforms and jars. The facilities are in Mexico, the United States, South America, Central America, Europe and Asia.
