M-2 ejector pins create new product category for PCS Co.

Fraser, Mich.-based PCS Company has introduced new ejector pins made of high-speed steel for higher wear resistance and better machineability.

Called M-2, the ejector pins launched a new product category for PCS, according to Derrick Jones, vice president of sales.

“This category of ejector pins is intended to complement our current line of ejector pins,” Jones said in an email. “M-2 is a type of high-speed steel that keeps the same hardness for the core as the surface.”

The new products are suitable for all injection molding applications, particularly machining and form work, Jones added.

“M-2 ejector pins offer high hardness and wear resistance without an additional surface treatment or coating,” he said.

Other ejector pins are made of tool steel with differing core and surface hardness, Jones explained. These kinds of pins are subjected to a nitriding heat treatment process to create a case hardness to a desired value.

“The M-2 ejector pins have the same core and surface hardness, in our case 60-63Rc,” Jones said. “This ejector pin does not have a nitride surface treatment as other ejector pin products. This reduces the possibility of chipping you might encounter on a nitride pin.”

M-2 ejector pin diameters range from 1/32 of an inch to a quarter-inch with lengths of 6 inches and 10 inches. The diameters are ground to achieve dimensional stability and a quality surface finish, Jones said.

“The M-2 ejector pins were added for customers who, increasingly, are requiring the unique specification of M-2 high-speed steel for their particular molding applications and tool designs,” Jones said.

PCS also offers 14 categories of imperial ejector pins (straight, D-head, armor-coated, oversize and step), three categories of Metric JIS ejector pins (straight, D-head and step) and four categories of Metric DIN ejector pins (straight, D-head, armor-coated and step).
