New Jersey’s largest solar facility is now in operation.
The 28.5-megawatt facility in located on Naval Weapons Station Earle in Tinton Falls, New Jersey, Kallanish Energy reports.
The facility on 170 acres was designed and built by CS Energy LLC. with headquarters in Edison, New Jersey.
It is owned by Vitol Green Holdings, Ben Moreell Solar Farm LLC and the U.S. Department of the Navy.
Vitol Green Holdings LLC is a subsidiary of Dutch-based Vitol Holdings BV.
The electricity provided by the solar facility is going to the local grid.
A second phase of the project is under way to install a separate behind-the-meter solar system that will connect to the naval weapons station utility grid with renewable energy to support operations.
The naval weapons station has about 1,500 workers.
CS Energy has installed more than 80 megawatts of solar projects on U.S. military bases around the globe.
The project helps New Jersey with its energy master plan that calls for the state to rely on 100% renewable energy by 2050.
At the end of 2019, New Jersey had 3,190 megawatts of operating solar or about 5% of its electricity. It added 447 megawatts in 2019.
