Winchester, Ky. — Taica Cubic Printing Kentucky LLC, an automotive supplier that specializes in decorating 3D objects, is investing $4.4 million in a project that includes injection molding capacity.
The company, a unit of Tokyo-based Taica Corp., will add 25,000 square feet to its Winchester plant and purchase five injection molding machines over two phases, according to a news release from Gov. Andy Beshear.
The added space will allow for in-house production of substrates currently purchased from other sources. The Winchester facility started production in 2013 and currently employs 44 people with an average wage of more than $26 per hour, according to the release.
“We hope and expect that this will not be our last expansion in the commonwealth,” Yasuhiro Kanai, president of Taica Cubic Printing Kentucky, said in the release. “Our goal is for Taica Cubic Printing Kentucky to continue to grow and mature to the level of an excellent company in Kentucky.”
Taica Corp. developed Cubic Printing in 1984, a hydrographic process that involves floating a special printed film on water and using water pressure to transfer a printed pattern onto a substrate. The company also operates Taica North America Corp. in Santa Clara, Calif., in addition to facilities in Mexico, China and Cambodia.
The company will receive up to $300,000 in incentives through an agreement with the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority.
