Increased natural gas production saves users nearly $93B in Ohio, Pa. and W. Va.

Residential, commercial, industrial and electric power generating sectors in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia have realized a combined savings of over $92.9 billion from 2008 to 2018, due to increased natural gas production in the region, according to a report called Natural Gas Savings to End-Users: 2008-2018, A Technical Briefing Paper.

According to the report, substantial growth in domestic natural gas production nationwide, led by Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, has resulted in $1.1 trillion in energy savings across the U.S. since 2008. During that time consumers in Ohio have saved over $45 billion, consumers in Pennsylvania have saved over $43.9 billion and consumers in West Virginia have saved over $3.6 billion.

Simultaneously, increased production has made the U.S. the top natural gas producing country in the world, with 85% of the new growth over the last decade coming from Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, according to Kallanish Energy.

The report was produced by Kleinhenz & Associates and released by the economic development group Shale Crescent USA and the Ohio Oil & Gas Energy Education Program.
