A new 550-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant in Harrison County is expected to break ground this spring and be operational by fall 2021, according to WV News. More importantly, the project is expected to serve as a catalyst in stimulating West Virginia’s economy.
The plant, a joint project of Energy Solutions Consortium and Caithness Energy, will interconnect with the PJM grid, powering 13 states and generating an expected $880 million for the state of West Virginia. Additionally, the plant will support 400 jobs, to be filled by union laborers, during construction.
Energy Solutions Consortium is also in the early stages of a second project, which will bring a larger, 830-megawatt natural gas power plant to Brooke County.
