German wind power association WAB and Scottish wind consortium DeepWind have signed a three-year cooperation agreement to develop a market for green hydrogen from wind power.
The parties said in a joint statement on Wednesday that the aim is to promote the offshore wind industry and the production of green hydrogen at sea transnationally. The idea is to support the supply chains in both countries, Kallanish Energy reports.
WAB expects the close collaboration will enable small and medium-sized companies to enter the market and simplify cooperation with larger market players.
But the trade body representing over 250 German businesses also hopes that the German government follows Scotland’s steps with a short-term special tender for offshore wind. “And also present a concrete plan on how the hydrogen strategy presented can be implemented in a market economy,” added Irina Lucke, chairwoman of WAB.
The DeepWind supply chain cluster is now the largest offshore wind representative body in Scotland with over 450 members. Its main purpose is to help members achieve greater benefit from the current and future development of offshore wind in the UK and internationally.
