The U.S. Department of Energy is ready to contribute $35 million to develop technologies that can help reduce methane emissions in the oil, gas and coal industries, according to Farm and Dairy.
The new Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy program is looking for projects that can be easily replicated and commercialized quickly to cut methane accumulation in the atmosphere to reduce the effects of climate change.
Estimates from the U.S. Energy Information Administration show that methane makes up nearly 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions every year and the energy sector is one of the largest sources.
