At dinner the other evening (while my paper straw turned to mush, a topic for another day!) we were discussing the impact of the United States shuttering coal power plants.
Along the Ohio River we have the Bruce Mansfield Power (2,739MW), Sammis Plant (2,454MW), Pleasants Power (1,368MW) and the Conesville Power Plant (1,727MW) outside of Zanesville, OH that have been slated for closure in the coming years.
While some still vilify fossil fuels and the impact of carbon on global warming, the rest of the world continues to build new coal facilities to replace dated technology. How many coal plants are under construction or in the planning stage for North America?

Coal continues to be the world’s best energy source. North America, (thanks to fracking!!), is able to limit reliance on coal and utilize natural gas for power generation while other technologies have time to advance.
New Power Plant
Argan says its Gemma Power Systems subsidiary received a notice to proceed with engineering, procurement and construction activities for a 1,875 MW natural gas-fired power plant in Guernsey County, Ohio.
The three single-shaft power trains for the facility will be provided by General Electric, utilizing 7HA.02 gas-fired turbines.
AGX expects construction to begin immediately with completion scheduled in 2022.
