Materials maker Americhem Inc. has acquired Controlled Polymers A/S, a compounder and concentrates maker based in Ribe, Denmark.
In a Sept. 1 news release, officials with Americhem in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, said that Controlled has been supplying “sustainable polymeric solutions” to some of the largest health care OEMs in the world for more than 30 years.
They added that Controlled Polymers “will seamlessly integrate” with Americhem’s Engineered Compounds unit by blending the companies’ product lines together to create “a full range of offerings for the medical plastics industry.”
Products made by Controlled Polymers complement Americhem’s specialized portfolio in medical devices and health care applications, officials said. Controlled Polymers has worldwide experience in the hearing aid industry and “puts sustainability above all else” and “strives to produce the greenest compounds in the world,” they added.
In addition to the medical market, Controlled Polymers sells into packaging, consumer goods, electronics, construction and automotive. The firm employs around 50 at a 50,000-square-foot site and makes compounds and concentrates primarily based on engineering resins.
Americhem is buying Controlled Polymers from Blue Equity, a Danish private equity firm. Products made by Controlled Polymers are exported to more than 25 countries.
“We are thankful that our successes at Americhem have allowed us to continue expanding our portfolio by bringing other like-minded companies into our Americhem family,” Americhem CEO Matthew Hellstern said.
Jim Figaniak, vice president and general manager of Americhem Engineered Compounds, added that his unit “has experienced such enormous growth over the past few years, which has created a platform for global expansion.”
Controlled Polymers CEO Mogens Larsen said that customers of both his firm and Americhem “will continue to experience the same dedicated quality and service as always, but with an expanded global reach and deeper breadth of product offerings.”
The Controlled Polymers deal is the fifth acquisition since 2013 for Americhem, but the company’s first since 2018, when it purchased Indian materials firm Prescient Color Ltd.
Americhem produces a broad range of concentrates, compounds and additives at 12 sites worldwide. The firm is one of North America’s 30 largest compounders and concentrate makers, according to Plastics News data.
