Alpla announces purchase of Spanish packaging producer

Austria-headquartered packaging solutions and recycling specialist Alpla has announced that it is acquiring Bopla S.A. as part of an asset deal.

Founded in 1978, Bopla is located in Les Franqueses near Barcelona. The company produces extrusion blow molded and injection stretch molded packaging, mainly for customers in the cosmetics, personal and household care market segments.

Alpla intends to use the Spanish company’s expertise in and experience with these single-stage manufacturing technologies to expand its own product portfolio.

“Bopla is well positioned in areas that belong to Alpla’s core lines of business,” commented Marc de Voogd, general manager for Alpla France and Iberia.

Alpla manufactures packaging systems, bottles, caps and molded parts at 181 sites across 46 countries. Its packaging is used in a wide range of areas, including for food and drinks, cosmetics and care products, household detergents, washing and cleaning agents, pharmaceutical products, engine oils and lubricants.

As Alpla has operated a production plant in Les Franqueses since 1990,  no difficulties are anticipated in integrating the new site into Alpla’s network. Bopla currently has a workforce of 50, with all the employees set to be kept on by Alpla.

The contracting parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price or any of the details involved.
