Las Vegas-based holding company Westfall Technik Inc. added a 6,000-square-foot clean room to a facility in Ciudad Industrial Nueva, Mexico, that it acquired with AMS Plastics Inc. in March 2018.
The expansion at the 75,000-square-foot facility about 2 miles from the U.S. border near Tijuana includes new electric molding machines and assembly lines for bagging, kitting and other secondary operations for the health care market.
“With over 70 medical device companies in the region and a rapidly growing customer roster we are excited to grow this offering as we continue to invest to meet the needs of the health care market,” Merritt Williams, vice president of sales and marketing, said in a news release. “This investment represents our most recent of several projects to increase clean room molding and assembly capacity across our growing network.”
Formed in 2017 by plastics industry veteran Brian Jones, Westfall Technik went into acquisition mode to expand its footprint and manufacturing capabilities for the health care, packaging and consumer goods markets. The firm says it is focused on engineering and molding at each site to ensure quality and repeatability.
AMS’s business is about 65 percent medical, 25 percent consumer goods and 10 percent packaging. When it was acquired, the Tijuana site had 32 injection molding machines and two clean rooms totaling 4,000 square feet of space for Class I, II and III medical devices.
The acquisition came at a time when Westfall Technik was on a buying spree, making 14 deals in 14 months that gave the company more than 1 million square feet of manufacturing space at 16 plants.
