Japanese automotive supplier Sekisui Chemical will display its concept car for the first time in Europe during this year’s IAA Frankfurt motor show to be held Sept. 12-22.
The futuristic vehicle incorporates all the core technologies in high performance plastics developed by Sekisui, including the company’s new HUD interlayer film technology for windshields.
The film, according to Sekisui, enables the data-driven presentation of information over the entire windshield as well as the car’s side windows.
Another innovation will be the company’s “Color Carbon” technology, which offers carbon fabric colored using sputter technology.
The technology provides more design options while retaining the advantages of carbon, such as light weight, Sekisui said in a statement ahead of the show.
The company will also display products such as film and foam solutions for lithium batteries in electric cars.
“We are delighted to be exhibiting at the IAA for the first time and hope that our technologies will provide impetus for the industry,” said Masayuki Suda.
The company’s latest product developments, said Suda, are expected to help Sekisui to expand its position in Europe.
Sekisui currently has around 40 percent of the market share for automotive interlayer films globally and has been supplying films for windshield or side glass in Europe since the 1980s.
The Japanese plastics processor restructured its European operations earlier this year with the establishment of a European headquarters in Roermond, the Netherlands.
